'Art and Still Life' Competition

We are inviting you to create your own artwork inspired by our two summer shows, Art and Life: Ben Nicholson, Winifred Nicholson, Christopher Wood, Alfred Wallis, William Staite Murray, 1920 – 1931 and Four masterpieces by Jan van Huysum.

Jan van Huysum was the most prolific Dutch still life painter of the 18th century. The Gallery’s display showcases four of the artist’s finest works illustrating his important role in the development of the flower still life. ‘Art and Life’ propels us into the 1920s, with early work by Ben and Winifred Nicholson alongside pieces by their renowned contemporaries Christopher Wood, Alfred Wallis and William Staite Murray. The Nicholsons were at the forefront of the Modernist movement in Britain, experimenting furiously with their painting styles, whilst often choosing the traditional subject of the still life.

Take these two unique shows as inspiration and use any medium to create your very own still life!
