French
Poussin and Claude are to be found in abundance in this gallery;
in fact Dulwich Picture Gallery holds one of the largest
collections of paintings by Poussin in the country. Both were
key players in French Classicism’s origins and the two painters’
works served as models for artists, setting the standard for the
genres of history and landscape painting. Important works
include Poussin’s The Triumph of David,
Rinaldo and Armida, The Nurture of
Jupiter and The Return of the Holy Family from
Egypt, and Claude’s Jacob and Laban with
Daughters.
