Work Experience for Secondary School students
Work experience placements for secondary
school students offer young people the opportunity to develop a
range of skills to contribute to their future employability.
Students assist in the art studio and help teachers and artists
with their workshops.
Internships for Graduates
Education Department volunteers commit to
working at least 3 days per week for a period of 3 months. They
undertake a wide variety of tasks from basic office duties to
assisting the running of the Schools Programme in the Gallery and
Sackler Centre Studio. Those who are able to commit for a longer
period of time are given a special project to tie in with their own
interests. Travel expenses are reimbursed.
Teaching at the Gallery
Volunteer Teaching Team
A team of dedicated volunteers help to
interpret our collection of Old Master paintings for students of
all ages. Our Volunteer Teaching Team benefits from regular
training including talks on the permanent collection and temporary
exhibitions and sessions on teaching methodology. Volunteer
Teachers must above all enjoy working with children and be able to
communicate in a fun and engaging way. Teaching experience is
beneficial, but not required. Enthusiasm is essential; no specific
art historical knowledge is required, as training is provided.
Teaching Artists
Over 35 talented Teaching Artists work both in
the Sackler Studio with schools, adults, young people and families,
and at various off-site venues with Community Outreach groups.
