The Agony and the Ecstasy was the first exhibition ever to focus on six of the seven St Sebastians painted by Guido Reni in the 17th century.
This was once in a life time opportunity to compare directly the six masterpieces which came from around the globe: New Zealand, Puerto Rico, Genoa, Madrid and Rome..

With the death of Aubrey Beardsley in 1898, the world of the illustrated book underwent a dramatic change. As a result a new generation of illustrators emerged. The masters of this new art form were artists like Edmund Dulac and Kay Nielson.

British Children’s portraits and their influence in Europe

British portraits of children by artists from as early as Van Dyck and including Gainsborough, Reynolds and Thomas Lawrence, inspired their great European counterparts.
