DiGIT: A Techninal Revolution at Dulwich Picture Gallery
DiGIT is pushing the boundaries of learning in a museum and is quite different from all other museum PDA schemes: not simply a visual alternative to audio guides, it is an interactive web-based device that is proving to be a tremendous educational tool.
DiGIT encourages active observation and discussion by the student and follow-up at any time in the future.
Individual trails are written for different age groups and ability levels, cover varying topics and encompass wide interests.
Trails ask questions which are sometimes funny, sometimes provocative, and always thought provoking.
Each student checks tick boxes, radio buttons and responds to the questions by texting ideas and answers.
Each student has a prearranged personal ID number. All input is saved in their own personal file. This personal file can be accessed later from any web-based devise anywhere.
DiGIT opens up tremendous opportunities for follow-up, which can be accessed from an internet café, a youth club, a library, at home, on another PDA or in the classroom. Trails recommend follow up activities, discussion topics and related websites.
DiGIT tours can be booked by Schools for Years 5 and above. Please call 020 8299 8731 or contact m.dowsett@dulwichpicturegallery.org.uk to arrange a visit.
The following DiGIT topics are currently available:
