Ian Dejardin, Director Dulwich Picture Gallery writes.

'It seems like only yesterday that I was writing in In View about one extraordinary milestone - the millionth pound given by the Friends to the Gallery. Well, now here is a second, equally astounding:- last year's donation of the Friends crept for the first time above the magical £250,000 mark. That is a quarter of a million pounds in one year - and as the Friends' esteemed Treasurer, David Parry, put it, 'a quarter of a million' does have such a particularly wonderful ring to it, which is why I have used the term twice in the same sentence. And now I'll say it again: A QUARTER OF A MILLION POUNDS. To say that the Friends of Dulwich Picture Gallery are now invariably one of our most significant annual donors is frankly putting it mildly; it is a rare year in which any single body or individual gives more. The Friends of Dulwich Picture Gallery are one of the most remarkable support groups in the museum world. Every single aspect of the Gallery's activities is crucially supported by the Friends; so I am speaking on behalf of every person here when I offer my profoundest gratitude for all that you all do on our behalf.'
