Commemorating the Bicentenary of
Dulwich Picture Gallery in
2011
Look at the mystery painting above.
It may well be by an important 17th century
artist. Desenfans and Bourgeois certainly thought so and gave
it pride of place in their Charlotte Street home. Tests have
revealed bright colours under the grime which has accumulated since
it was damaged during the Second World War. It has not been on
display since then.
Conservation of picture and frame will cost in
the region of £30,000 and will take about a year
to complete.
The Friends membership is now over
6,000. We are asking every one of you to give
£5 (or more) so that we can return this ‘new’ Old
Master to its place on the Gallery walls in time for the
Bicentenary celebrations.
