The third Annual trip of the Desenfans Circle led the members
of the patron group for four days to Milan. On the first weekend in
October the group set out for a series of exclusive visits of
museums and collections, mostly guided by Ian Dejardin, Director,
and Xavier Salomon, Arturo and Holly Melosi Chief Curator.
The highlights in Milan were the visit and special lecture in
front of The Last Supper, the
outstanding curiosities of the Pinacoteca
Ambrosiana as presented by the head of the Academia,
Monsignor Rocca – including Petrarch’s own copy of Virgil, a hidden
room in the Pinacoteca di Brera, containing
Raphael’s infinitely beautiful Marriage of the Virgin and Piero
della Francesca’s magisterial Madonna and Saints. Also it was
pleasure to be personally invited by Contessa
Crespi to her Palazzo to view the private collection and
the marvelous family home. On the final day, the group made its way
to the Lago Maggiore to visit the Isole Borromee
with its white peacocks, extraordinary gardens and a remarkable
collection of Old Masters and tapestries.
