Faces of Southwark Competition

This is the fourth year running for the competition, which invites photographers to submit their images taken in or around the borough of Southwark.

This year the photographs were exhibited at the Dulwich Picture Gallery in April and May.  The winners were chosen by a panel comprising of fashion photographer Kristian Schuller; visual artist, Caron Geary and Don't Panic media's, Joe Wade.  The competition was sponsored by Southwark’s community councils as a way to get people more involved in the community where they live or work.

The prizes were given out by Councillor Adele Morris, Southwark Council’s executive member for citizenship, equalities and communities, who complimented all the entrants for “capturing the many faces and places of Southwark’s diverse borough and all the flavours it has to offer.”

She added: “The quality of the photos entered this year for the ‘Faces of Southwark’ competition has been amazingly high. The photographs captured a sense of what a wonderfully vibrant and attractive place Southwark is.  “This competition is also important because the vision put forward by these images is the vision of its citizens. They will be used in Southwark’s publications to promote the borough ”

The winning entry was by Guy Gormley  with his photo entitled: Schwarzenegger and companion. Guy won a camera, a one-off paid commission to take photos for Southwark Life magazine and other prizes.
