The Suburban House: the best or worst of all worlds?
Around 1800, a new type of house was offered by London builders, and by the 1930s ‘suburban’ had become a term of abuse, denoting self-delusion and social conservatism, a prejudice still present today. However, the antiurban dream of suburbia also influenced high-rise building.
