Hilda Carline: The First Mrs Stanley Spencer
Gifted, and from a family of artists, Hilda Carline studied at the Slade and married one of its star pupils, Stanley Spencer. Eventually divorced, a tense relationship developed between Hilda, Stanley and his second wife. The lecture discusses these people, and Hilda Carline’s largely neglected work.
