This talk examines motifs appearing in high-life genre scenes of the Dutch Golden Age, in an attempt to determine whether their presence reflects contemporary trends and practices, or merely artistic conventions.

Lecturer: Betsy Wieseman, Curator, Dutch and Flemish Paintings 1600–1800, the National Gallery, London.
