In Sight Lecture Series: The Golden Age of Dutch painting: Landscapes, Seascapes and Interiors

In the seventeenth century, the Dutch Republic was the most prosperous nation in Europe, leading in trade, science and art. Emerging from a bitter war, artists spurned Baroque splendour for calm realism, creating genres of painting reflecting everyday scenes which highlighted their rich social and cultural heritage. This series looks at three such genres.

There are three lectures in the series, please click on the links to book and find out more:

Wednesday 28 September: Staging the Scene: Material Goods in Genre Paintings by Dou and his Contemporaries
