InSight Lecture: Microcosms and Microworlds: ivory carvings from the Middle Ages

Book Now

Medieval ivory diptychs, triptychs and tiny tabernacles contain miniature worlds. Tableaus of biblical scenes and apocryphal stories are contained and framed. This lecture explores the skill of the medieval carver and the role that miniaturisation played in the status of ivory carvings.

This lecture will be given by Naomi Speakman, Curator of Late Medieval Europe at the British Museum.

Coffee will be served afterwards.
