JMW Turner (1775–1851) was hailed by his contemporaries as a magician in watercolour, celebrated for his innovative practice and renowned for
being highly secretive about his methods. This talk will explore Turner’s lifelong relationship with the medium by which he First found fame, from studio experiments and watercolours made on his travels to highly finished masterpieces.
