Rachel Whiteread, a Turner Prize winner, is one of the most important and respected British artists working today. She was recently commissioned to provide a site-specific sculpture for the enormous Tate Modern Turbine Hall. Her preoccupation with the spaces in between things has resulted in an extraordinary range of objects which form surprisingly eloquent tributes to the silent and overlooked. This talk explains the ideas, processes and techniques behind her enigmatic and sometimes controversial sculptures, from the unassuming and mundane to the truly monumental
