Women artists in the 19th century: Impressionists and others

Part of a lecture series: Women Artists: Ordinary or Extraordinary?
10.30-11.30am
Linbury room

Kathleen Adler discusses the increase in the number of women artists in Paris in the second half of the nineteenth century, including some of the many Americans who flocked there to study and exhibit. We will consider whether the art of Berthe Morisot and other members of the Impressionist group, as well as Mary Cassatt and her American colleagues, can be seen as 'feminine'.
Kathleen Adler was Director of Education at the National Gallery, London, and curated 'Americans in Paris' at the National Gallery in 2006
