Saying ‘I do’ at Dulwich Picture Gallery

Saying I Do _lead Image

If you’ve ever wondered what it would be like to celebrate your marriage in the presence of some of the most famous paintings in the world, then let Nick and Helena’s story paint a picture for you.

On the 21st December 2013 Nick and Helena Feasey from Wimbledon got married at Dulwich Picture Gallery. Helena had known the Gallery since she was young, growing up in Dulwich and visiting many times during her childhood. She and Nick wanted a local venue and although Helena knew the gallery better, Nick loved it when he visited and thought it would be an amazing and memorable place to get married.

Helena said,

“How many places can you have dinner right next to Rembrandts, Gainsboroughs and Canaletto?! With my memories and the gallery being so stunning it seemed like a great place. The gallery works just as well for a winter wedding as a summer one, and we really liked the idea of the one long table in the gallery. Everyone – Nick and I and my parents – were unanimous that we’d get married there.”

The ceremony took place in the Linbury Room, which the couple personalised with decorations from Malawi where they lived together for three years. Friends and family enjoyed looking around the permanent collection both before the ceremony and after dinner, and the kids spent time drawing their own pictures during the day.

And the highlight of the day? “It was all really special” said Helena, “apart from actually getting married of course (!) – having a private party with 100 of our closest friends and family in that amazing space was truly amazing.”

As well as receptions, Dulwich Picture Gallery now offers wedding ceremonies in the permanent collection. If you’re interesting in saying ‘I do’ in the presence of a Canaletto or Rembrandt, then please get in touch or visit our weddings page.
