Three Peasants at an Inn

Van Ostade is said to have been a pupil of Frans Hals but it is difficult to see any of Hals’ influence in his paintings. The subject of an interior with drunken peasants is typical of the artist. This work is dated 1647, during the decade when Van Ostade was most under Rembrandt’s influence.
