There are possible traces of a monogram before the signature, referring to Snayers's position as painter to the Cardinal-Infante Ferdinand. He held this position from 1634 until the Cardinal's death in 1641. The painting's signature implies it was painted prior to 1641, although Snayers did continue to use this signature into the 1640s.
