Requesting a loan
To request a loan for an exhibition, a letter should be sent to the Gallery at least a year ahead of the exhibition’s start date. The letter should contain details of the exhibition, including the venue and dates, as well as an explanation of why the work has been selected. The borrower will also be asked to complete a Facilities Report which will provide essential information connected with the venue, access, security, environmental and display conditions.
All loan requests are reviewed by the Gallery’s Trustees, who meet four times a year.

Long-term loans
In addition to our short-term loans to exhibitions, some of our paintings are also on long-term loan to venues across London.
Dulwich Picture Gallery has paintings on long-term loan to Strawberry Hill House, Twickenham, the former home of the writer, antiquarian and politician, Horace Walpole (1717–1797). Strawberry Hill Trust has recreated the effect of Walpole’s original collection, through both acquisitions and long-term loans; using the catalogue Walpole wrote for his own collection in 1774 as a guide.
