Described in Cartwright's inventory as Altheas pictur her hare descheuell.... Althea Cartwright (d.1666) was the subject of Richard Lovelace's most famous lyric, To Althea, from Prison, written during his confinement in the Gatehouse in 1642 (for Lovelace, see Dobson DPG363). The sitter was presumably a relation of William II Cartwright (see Greenhill DPG393).
