Jacob de Witt (1589-1674): burgomaster of Dordrecht, ambassador extraordinary to Sweden and Norway, Grand Pensionary. He was briefly imprisoned in 1650 for his part in the opposition of the States of Holland to William II's military policy. The sitter is identified in an engraving by J. Houbraken of 1760, made from a drawing by A. Schouman based on the original portrait. De Witt married Anna van den Corput (1599-1645), who is represented in the pendant portrait DPG571.
