Michal Jerzy Poniatowski (1736-94): brother of Stanislaus II Augustus, King of Poland (see DPG490); Bishop of Plock, 1773; Primate of Poland, 1784. On a visit to London in 1790 he met Noel Desenfans whom he recommended for a commission to acquire paintings for the Polish Royal collection. DPG489 is doubtless a copy, perhaps like DPG490 from an original by Bacciarelli. A comparable portrait by Bacciarelli (though it is not the source for DPG489) is in the National Museum, Warsaw.
