Acquired as Le Nain, but catalogued since c.1866 as the work of Guilliam I van Herp. DPG332 repeats the main figures in a painting in the Hunterian Museum and Art Gallery, Glasgow, given by art historian J. Thuillier to the 'Master of the B‚guins', active in Paris c.1650-70. This name is associated with a group of works close in style to that of the Le Nain brothers. Almost all the works in this group contain figures wearing the type of bonnet known in France as 'b‚guin'.
