The Assembled

This sculpture draws inspiration from Sir Peter Lely’s Nymphs by a Fountain in our Collection and the careful staging within the painting. This abstract work by sculptor, Laura Ellen Bacon considers the assembly and staging of the figures in the painting with the arrangement of the wooden posts onto which the natural materials are assembled and tied. This gathering of ‘bundled’, bound up forms seem both fixed and pinned into position yet swaying and reaching their way to the shelter of the nearby tree.
