Brighten up a winter's evening with exclusive after-hours access to our blockbuster exhibition, Rembrandt's Light. Try your hand at 'light drawing' with Tine Bech Studio, experts in experiential light installations, give mindfulness and 'slow looking' a go, or simply take it all in with a delicious cocktail.

Illuminated Portraits with Tine Bech studio
Linbury Room
Learn how to draw with light from multimedia installation artist Tine Bech. Play with movement, colour, light and photography to create your own illuminated portrait inspired by the exhibition.

Candle Cuffs
Sackler Centre
Have a go at crafting your own candle cuff, and casting different kinds of shadows. Artist Grace Holliday will guide you through cutting different designs in to paper and creating a cuff unique to you.

Lights, Camera, Action

Enjoy a series of short films created by students from the London College of Communication’s Screen School, which explore the filmmaker’s greatest tool for storytelling – light! How was this device so powerfully manipulated by Rembrandt, and what are the filmmakers of today doing with it now?

Shadowy Sketches 
Gallery 4, 6-10pm (drop in)
In the style of Rembrandt, try your hand at drawing the illuminated figure. Drop in to this relaxed drawing session, where artist Ilga Leimanis will share a variety of tips about how to capture light and shadow, as well as the human figure.

Pop-up Exhibition Talks
Every half hour from 6.30–9.30pm
Delve deeper into the world of Rembrandt’s Light with these pop-up talks exploring Rembrandt’s life and work. Find your guides Jane Simpkiss and Zach Taylor (7pm; 2019 ARTiculation Prize Winner – the national public speaking prize on the arts for young people) inside the exhibition space, with each talk taking place in a different room and exploring a different theme.

Slow Looking

6.30pm, 7.30pm, 8.30pm & 9.30pm
Wind down with Limina Collective and try out some slow looking sessions. Taking inspiration from the gallery’s Collection, experience how you can use paintings to relax and let go of the day.

Delicious food and drink is available to purchase from the Gallery Café and Gimlet bar.
