Gory Stories

Join world-class storytellers, Nell Phoenix and Ben Haggarty, as they delight in the gore of Ribera's paintings, telling stories inspired by them, about them, and as mischievously devilish as they are! Expect folk and fairytales with plenty of misadventure.

Sessions last 45mins.

Presented by The Crick Crack Club, these sessions will be run by two star storytellers: Ben Haggarty (23 and 26 October) and Nell Phoenix (24 and 25 October). Find more information about their practice below.

Suggested age: (Bold and brave) 6 years and older and their grown-ups.
Every child, or two children, should always be accompanied by at least one adult for the entirety of the session.

Ben Haggarty: Fairytale teller extraordinaire, Ben has been telling stories his whole life! He is one of the world's most popular contemporary storytellers, renowned for his passionate and physical performances. He tours widely, has been a guest artist in over one hundred International Storytelling Festivals in 25 countries, and for 10 years was the official storyteller with Yo Yo Ma’s Silk Road Ensemble. Ben is Honorary Professor of Storytelling at the Arts University of Berlin. His graphic novel series ‘MeZolith' is published by Archaia.

Nell Phoenix: With her utterly engaging storytelling style, Nell tells stories to all sorts of people in all sorts of places, delighting in the comedic and the strange. Her recent work includes stories told in schools in the Netherlands, at Berattar Festivalen in Sweden, the Amsterdam Storytelling Festival, the British Museum, Hampton Court Palace, Newlon Housing Estate, Rich Mix London, Highgrove, Hackney Library, and for NTS Live, London's coolest digital radio station. She is Patron of Reading at Belmont Primary School in Haringey, encouraging the students connect with all things story.

The Crick Crack Club: The UK's premiere performance storytelling programmer and promoter, working with the finest performance storytellers, developing audiences, supporting artists, and collaborating with organisations across the UK and Europe. They curate and programme remarkable event for thinkers, dreamers and seekers.
