On the Framing of Women
Join us for this after-hours exclusive view of Reframed: The Woman in the Window. This event will feature the exhibition's curator Dr Jennifer Sliwka and National Portrait Gallery curator Dr Flavia Frigeri in conversation.
This talk will use the current exhibition as a talking point for exploring the representation of women in the history of art. The talk will also discuss recent and forthcoming projects which seek to recover the identities and voices of women in the arts, providing living artists and sitters with greater visibility.
About the speakers
Dr Flavia Frigeri is an art historian and curator, focusing on post-war Italian art, feminism, exhibition histories and pop art. In September 2020 she joined the National Portrait Gallery in the capacity of Curator: Missing Narratives on Women; leading on a three-year research project with a particular emphasis on female artists and sitters.
Jennifer Sliwka is an art historian, curator and lecturer based at King's College London where she convenes a collaborative MA with the National Gallery. Before joining King's, she worked, from 2007 to 2017 as a curator at the National Gallery, curation exhibitions including: Devotion by Design: Italian Altarpieces before 1500, Visions of Paradise: Botticini's Palmieri Altarpiece, and Monochrome: Painting in Black and White.
This event will start with a drink's reception at 6:30pm. A complimentary drink and entry to the exhibition is included in the price of your ticket.
