In 1811, Dulwich Picture Gallery was built through a gift left in the will of Maragaret Desenfans. This gift would change the way the world viewed art forever.
In celebration of National Legacy Month and the Legacy that started it all, our Director, Jennifer Scott will be in conversation with special guest, artist David Hepher, who has led a fascinating ‘life in art.’
David Hepher (b. 1935) is a British artist renowned for his six-decade exploration of South London’s urban landscape. Focusing on the monumental social housing estates of the 1960s and ’70s, his work captures both the formal beauty and emotional resonance of modernist architecture. Combining painterly abstraction with architectural realism, Hepher’s textured, graffiti-marked surfaces evoke the passage of time and the shifting social fabric of the city. A former professor at the Slade School of Fine Art, his work is held in major public collections including Tate, the Museum of London, and the Victoria and Albert Museum.
