Society of Women Organists in Recital: Alison Howell

The Society of Women Organists (SWO) is dedicated to celebrating female organists in all areas of music-making.

Following the launch of the Society of Women Organists in February, the recital series at Christ’s Chapel this autumn features three distinguished members; Alison Howell of Bristol University (15 September), Anne Page of Cambridge (13 October) and Alana Brook of Lincoln Cathedral (10 November).

Alison Howell took up the organ at the age of 16 with Eric Hemery, and gained a place at the Royal Academy of Music, taught by Dr Peter Hurford and Anne Page. She continued studying in Amsterdam and London with a scholarship from the Countess of Munster Musical Trust. Alison won the Coventry Cathedral Recital Award for outstanding performance and frequently gives solo recitals, accompanies numerous choirs, and enjoys teaching organ and piano.
