Join artist Li Li Ren and curator Mazzy-Mae Green for a live conversation exploring Ren’s immersive sculptural installation, To Find a Way Home (2023).
Experience an evening of conversation with artist Li Li Ren and curator Mazzy-Mae Green as they delve into Ren’s sculptural installation To Find a Way Home (2023).
Installed in our Sculpture Garden, To Find a Way Home is a series of immersive sculptures - coral-like forms reminding us to look out for the strange and the surreal.
In discussion with Green, Ren will reflect on the development of her practice and the ideas that underpin her installations. Her work negotiates the shifting relationships between objects in space, constructing environments that stretch beyond the physical exhibition into speculative realms suspended between the biologically plausible and the highly fantastical. Working across sculpture and installation, Ren uses unexpected materials and abstractions to reimagine familiar forms - hard glass may appear soft and gelatinous; bodies may become tidal, porous or hybrid.
Li Li Ren
Li Li Ren is an artist whose practice explores the constantly shifting relationships between objects, bodies and environments. Working across sculpture and installation, she creates built worlds that move beyond the physical exhibition space into imagined realms that are at once biologically suggestive and highly fantastical.
Her work often incorporates forms associated with the ocean, biology, maternity, altered states and the Anthropocene, while deliberately queering and destabilising those references through abstraction, material play and transformation.
