Explore the creative possibilities of cuprotypes and copper halide monoprints in this hands-on photographic printmaking workshop.
Working with archival images of the city, you’ll experiment with light‑sensitive emulsions made from copper and iron to produce unique, richly toned prints.
Rooted in early photographic experimentation, the cuprotype process has been revived by contemporary artists for its expressive range and openness to play. While it shares similarities with the classic cyanotype, its copper-based chemistry produces entirely different results, revealing warm hues, shifting colours, and surprising textures. Throughout the session, you’ll be guided through each stage of the process, with plenty of room to test variations and develop your own approach.
This workshop is delivered in collaboration with The Sustainable Darkroom, an artist‑run research and training programme dedicated to environmentally conscious photographic practice. Their work equips cultural practitioners with new tools, techniques and ideas for building a low‑impact, future‑focused darkroom.
Join us to learn, experiment, and create your own series of experimental prints using one of photography’s most intriguing alternative processes.
