Christ Carrying the Cross

The composifion seems to derive from the 'Christ carrying the Cross' by Titian or Giorgione in the Scuola di San Rocco, Venice (H.E. Wethey, Titian, London, 1969, I, no.22), though the second soldier, in armour, is a grotesque caricature reminiscent of more Northern prototypes.
