Pointillism and Anarchism with Chris Riopelle

19 Jun 2026

12.30 - 1.30pm

Discover the radical side of art in this thought-provoking lecture exploring the surprising connections between Pointillism, Modernism and anarchism.

Led by Chris Riopelle, curator of the National Gallery’s current Radical Harmony exhibition, this engaging presentation unpacks how revolutionary ideas shaped revolutionary art.

Many leading Modernist painters, including Konrad Mägi, Seurat, Signac and Pissarro, were drawn to anarchist ideals, seeing in their innovative painting techniques a reflection of their political beliefs. Through vivid examples and expert insight, this session reveals how colour, technique and ideology came together to challenge the artistic and social conventions of their time.

Your ticket includes optional entry to the Konrad Mägi exhibition, giving you the chance to continue exploring these powerful ideas in the gallery itself.
