An Evening Ride near a River

It was previously thought that this painting was not by Cuyp but a pupil under the master's 'supervision or tutelage'. Certainly the muddy handling and sketchy sheep are not typical of Cuyp's usual precision but the composition is strong and the signature seems genuine and contemporary with the picture itself.
