Apollo and Daphne

Fleeing Apollo, the nymph Daphne calls on the aid of her father, the river god Peneus, and is transformed into a laurel tree (Ovid, Metamoephoses, I). Both DPG176 and its pair DPG179 were attributed to Gérard de Lairesse until the signatures were discovered during cleaning in the 1940s.
