The Infant Saint John

Murillo's depictions of the Christ Child asleep and the Infant Saint John were extremely popular during the seventeenth century, and were copied and imitated in Murillo's own lifetime. The recent cleaning of this painting has revealed that it is very close to the work of one of Murillo's followers, Francisco Meneses Osorio (1640(?)-1721), particularly Saint John's facial features and in the treatment of his hands and feet.
