Landscape

Described in Cartwright's inventory as 'A Large Landscift don by Streeker...', this is one of only two easel pictures documented as by Streeter, and a rare authenticated example of a landscape painted in England in this period. The landscape reflects Dutch influence, but there is much improbability in the composition and the figures are weak. It has been proposed that DPG376 was painted by the painter's son, only known for routine decorative paintings, but Streeter himself was was often commissioned decorative and scenic works, and may well be the author of this landscape.
