Explorations of Painting, Colour and Form

Book Now

In this one-day workshop artist Nikki Gardham will guide you in an exploration of approaches used by Helen Frankenthaler. You will be introduced to the technique of colour fielding which Frankenthaler was known for developing in her paintings which influenced many abstract artists.

You’ll explore her use of immersive colour layering which she translated into her prints. You’ll experiment with layering, colour washes and printing inspired by Frankenthaler’s techniques and push the boundaries to create your own unique processes and artworks inspired by Frankenthaler’s quote that highlights her approach to artmaking: “There are no rules. That is how art is born, how breakthroughs happen. Go against the rules or ignore the rules. That is what invention is about.”

You’ll come away with your own series of experimental artworks to take home.

This session is suitable for all abilities including beginners.

All materials provided.
