Luisa-Maria MacCormack an interdisciplinary artist and scholar, invites the curious minded to an eye-opening (FEMINIST ART HISTORY) Lecture on Female sexuality and the Male Gaze.

This lecture will be a whistlestop tour of some of the most iconic (misogynistic) masterpieces from European Art History. Exploring the nuance of naked vs nude, we will introduce the concept of the ‘Male Gaze’ and how explore how it has permeated notions of female sexuality throughout the past 1000 years.

From the all-pervasive visual dynamics of the Graeco-Roman world to roles for women in Christian religious paintings, as well as works created through the lenses of the ‘colonial gaze.’ This session will introduce students to some of the great (and morally suspect) works of art history with reference to some feminist visual theory from icons such as Linda Nochlin, Laura Mulvey and more. Expect to see some of your favourite works of art in a completely different light!

The Feminist Library will host a pop-up Shop. The Feminist Library is a space where researchers, activists and interested members of the public can learn about and make feminist history. @thefeministlibrary.

Join Drop-in artmaking sessions Photo Emulsion Printing, Stain Glass Print Laminating and Screen-Printing workshops in our gardens. We will also be hosting a film screening by LCC Students in response to the exhibition and presentation by Eve Travers whose animation is featured in Reframed: The Woman in the Window.

Make sure to bring your headphones with you to join a unique sound tour, created especially for the gallery's collection!

All workshops and activities are free (ticketed, advance booking essential) however this does not include entry to the Reframed: The Woman in the Window exhibition. This can be booked in advance, or a small number of tickets will be available on the door. Under 30? Get your ticket for just £5!
