Join Artist and Printmaker Alex Booker for a festive workshop exploring the ancient art of woodcut printing. 

During this one-day session you'll use traditional Japanese hand tools, learn the process of inking Shina ply woodblocks, print by hand with barens (circular discs wrapped in bamboo) and work with various types of paper including handmade Hosho paper and coloured cards. 

This is the perfect opportunity to learn a new skill and make multiple prints through editions, ending the final part of the session by experimenting with your favourite design. 

Materials

Please bring any material, visual or otherwise that may inspire you – photos, drawings, patterns, text, books etc. Alex has a brilliant portfolio of prints from workshops over the years, to share and showcase what is possible for the day.
