This event is organised by the Friends but open to all. Join the Friends and receive a discount.

Using the work of Monet as a starting point, this lecture examines the role gardens played in the evolution of art from the early 1860s through to the 1920s. Graham Greenfield will explain how the garden gave artists the freedom to break new ground and explore the everchanging world around them.

This lecture is part of the In Town lecture series exploring major exhibitions across London. All lectures take place at the Gallery.

Co-organised by the Royal Academy of Arts and the Cleveland Museum of Art, Painting the Modern Garden: Monet to Matisse runs at the Royal Academy of Arts  from Jan 30 to April 20 2016.
