Much Ado About Nothing with the HandleBards

Join the world’s first cycling theatre company, the HandleBards, for an open-air, bicycle-powered production of Shakespeare’s Much Ado About Nothing in our grounds.

The HandleBards pedal from venue to venue with all the set, props and costumes necessary to perform mentally sustainable Shakespeare across the globe. Expect riotous amounts of energy, a fair whack of chaos, and a great deal of laughter as their all-male troupe perform one of the Bard’s greatest comedies.

And what’s the play about? Well, a group of soldiers return from the war to a household in Messina, causing the kindling of new love interests and of old rivalries. The parallel love stories of Beatrice, Benedick, Claudio and Hero become entangled with plotting, frivolity and melodrama in Shakespeare’s famous comedy.

This is an outdoor production, so please bring your own chair or blanket to sit on, a picnic to dig into and dress for the weather. Additional food and drink options will be available to purchase on the night.

“Explodes with energy and is a genuine treat from start to finish.”★★★★★ The Stage
“There is not a single HandleBard who is anything less than magnificent.” ★★★★★ The Wee Review
“Five stars just don’t seem enough...” ★★★★★ The Sunderland Echo
