Christmas 2016: Winter lights spectacle and festive market set to transform Dulwich Picture Gallery

Download high-res images

A spectacular winter lights trail and artisan Christmas market, complete with pop-up carollers, children’s storytelling, food, drink and merriment, will provide the ultimate festive experience at Dulwich Picture Gallery this December.

From 6-18 December, Dulwich Picture Gallery will re-open at 6pm for Winterlights, a site-wide installation. The grounds and historic building will be transformed with illuminations from a variety of light sources bringing the Gallery to life after dark. Visitors can follow a dazzling trail along winding paths and explore explosions of colour and light in trees and secluded nooks, with lanterns and bespoke lighting adding to the enchanted atmosphere.

Visitors can also see two contemporary baroque-inspired Christmas trees by 3D art specialists, Nagual Creations, as well as create their own festive family photo at a specially-commissioned giant baroque gold frame in the grounds mirroring the Gallery’s collection.

Throughout each evening choirs will perform Christmas classics and families can book in for Christmas storytelling in the Gallery’s charming, Keepers Cottage. Street food and mulled drinks will be available from a range of vendors including the Gallery’s own Christmas Cabin.

Artisan Market
Over both weekends (10-11 & 17-18) Dulwich will host an artisan market bringing over 50 high-quality stalls to the grounds for the perfect Christmas shopping experience. Visitors can choose from a range of handmade crafts, jewellery, local produce and more and enjoy time out with food and drink available. During the day visitors can also get creative at drop-in Christmas bauble-making workshops and enjoy food and drink from a range of vendors. The market will continue into the night to coincide with Winterlights.
